The Halloween celebration between history, origins, legends and curiosities

Halloween is the magical night par excellence. It is a celebration that is gaining ground even in Italy, but perhaps not everyone knows that it was not born in America, but it has very ancient European origins. The tradition of celebrating the All Saints Day (in English All Hallows' Eve Day, which was then contracted in Halloween) has indeed British, and more in specific, Celtic origins. In fact, Halloween corresponds to “Samhain”, the Celtic New Year. From Ireland, the tradition was then exported to the United States by emigrants, who, driven by the terrible famine of the nineteenth century, moved numerous to the new land.
For those populations, which were mainly based on agriculture for survival, the new year began on November 1 and on the night of October 31 was celebrated Samhain, or the end of the summer, in which mortals thanked the spirits for the summer crops.
In those days it was in fact common belief that in the late summer night, the barriers between the world of the living and that of the spirits would become so thin as to allow them to return to the earth.
From here descended the use of leaving some sweets in front of the houses’ doors, in order to thank the souls of the dead, or of hanging lanterns made from pumpkins, the famous "Jack-o-lantern", in order to lead their way.
Even the custom of "trick-or-treat", which every October 31 move from home to home thousands of American children eager for sweets and other delicacies, comes precisely from this belief: children disguise themselves as impersonating spirits, visiting families driven by pumpkin lanterns and getting sweets in exchange for their benevolence.
Another custom is to set the table for Halloween dinner by adding one more place, as a tribute to the dead.
According to the Celtic tradition, moments of transition between two states, like the change of season, had particular magical powers. Samhain was the biggest and most important transition period of the year: it led to climate change and population shift occurred when it was getting cold and the shepherds brought their cattle to the valley.
The Celts believed therefore that this powerful magic moment could open a sort of connection with the world of the dead, those who had experienced the last transition, the one between life and death.
It was believed that during Samhain the living world was in close contact with the dead, and that the spirits of the dead were traveling back to earth.
Many of the activities carried out during Samhain concerned this belief and today they have developed into true Halloween traditions.
The advent of Christianity has not completely canceled these festivities, but in many cases it was superimposed on them, giving them content and meanings different from the original ones. This can include the All Saints Day and the commemoration of the dead on November 2.
Death was the main theme of the holiday, in harmony with what was happening in nature: during the winter season life seems to be silent, while in reality it is renewed underground, where traditionally, among other things, the dead rest. From here it is understandable the juxtaposition of Samhain to the cult of the dead. The Celts believed that on the eve of each new year, October 31st, Samhain would call to himself all the spirits of the dead, who lived in a land of eternal youth and happiness called “Tir nan Oge”, and that the spirit forces could join the world of the living, thus provoking the temporary dissolution of the laws of time and space and causing the afterlife to merge with the world of the living and allowing the wandering spirits to wander undisturbed on Earth. Samhain was, therefore, a celebration that united the fear of death and spirits to the joy of festivities by the end of the old year. During the night of October 31, gatherings were held in the woods and on the hills for the ceremony of the Sacred Fire Ignition and animal sacrifices were made. Dressed with grotesque masks, the Celts returned to the village, making light with lanterns made of carved onions inside which the embers of the Sacred Fire were placed. After these rituals the Celts celebrated for 3 days, disguising themselves with the skins of the animals killed to scare away the spirits. In Ireland become wide spreading the use of torches and candles outside the doors, leaving food and milk for the souls of the dead who would visit their families, so that they could refresh and decide not to make jokes to the living.
In the mid-nineteenth century, Ireland was hit by a terrible famine. At that time to escape poverty, many people decided to leave the island and try their luck in the United States, where they created a strong community, like many other nationalities. Inside it were kept alive the traditions and customs of their homeland, and among them at October 31 Halloween was celebrated. Soon, this custom spread throughout the American people, becoming almost a national holiday. More recently, the United States, thanks to cinema and television, has exported the Halloween festivities all over the world, also infecting that part of Europe that had remained foreign to it. In many movies and TV series, the famous pumpkin and the masked children who knock on the doors often appear. And finally, so much are the books and horror stories that take Halloween as a backdrop or as a starting point for their plots. In the United States Halloween has lost its religious significance and rituals, and has become an opportunity to have fun and organize expensive and happy celebrations as well as in the rest of the world.

High heels and back pain: how to survive

The high heel is one of the most beautiful inventions of humanity. Décolleté, boots, sandals and wedges... It’s hard to find a woman who does not love heels. Even those who do not need it, because naturally endowed with long and tapered legs, have more than one pair of them. They give elegance and poise, they stretch the leg, they slender the whole figure, make us thinner and more beautiful, but above all they lift us from the ground and from the common mortals. The world from up there looks fantastic and smiles at us.
Their seductive power is legend, but several research points out that prolonged use can lead to various pains and problems in posture and articulation. According to a research study by the Stanford University, for example, walking with heels high more than 7 centimeters can facilitate the development of arthritis, an inflammatory disease that affects the articulations which is, not surprisingly, two or three times more common in women than in men. The reason: the heels change the pace, especially in those who have a few extra pounds, causing greater pressure on the knees joints.
A research study by the Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Vienna has also shown that wearing high heels for long periods can cause shortening of muscle fibers and a thickening of the Achilles tendon.
But the most notable negative effect caused by heels is back pain. The heels, raising the feet, shift the center of gravity forward. To regain balance, you tend to arch your back backwards, causing a lumbar arching that alters the distribution of loads on the vertebral discs. Who wears them only on special occasions is not exempt from these risks, indeed: not being used of them, adopts a clumsy and insecure walk that accentuates the curvature of the back and vaguely resembles the gait of an embalmed mummy.
The solution: prefer heels high less than 7 centimeters and with the plateau. The ideal would be 3-4 centimeters. Even ballet flats and flip-flops, therefore, are deleterious and not just horrible.
In general, the rule is that shoes must be comfortable, even sports ones. Not too wide or too tight, so as not to hinder the venous return. Who does not want to give up vertiginous heels, should have the foresight to perform some stretching exercise once back home, to stretch the calf muscles, the biceps femoris and quadriceps. And then be barefoot for a while, to activate all the feet joints. Even taking constant foot baths with cold water and lavender essence can be a great help in order to don’ t give up wearing our beloved heels.

Bags: the greatest love of every woman

Bags are a real obsession, we know it very well. We always need a new one, they are never enough and we are really available to spend a lot of money for them.
But what does the bag mean for women? What triggers our brain to convince us that we need a very expensive bag? A question which faces everyone, especially men, but not only...
In addition to showing our personality and expressing our taste, the bag we choose represents a real status symbol. This is why we often hear that there is not "a more secure and lasting investment like the one for buying a bag!" But what’s the reason?
A new bag gives us security, makes us happy and satisfied because a bag is forever! Let's face it... we all dream of growing old together with our very expensive bags and our most precious diamond!
People often ask me "What do you do with all these bags? Are you buying another bag? Do not you have enough bags?". Give up... The answer is no, it’s not enough for me and it will be never enough for me and I know it's the same for all of you who are reading my blog.
Yet it is not so difficult to understand that bags are never enough for us and we always need to buy new, beautiful and designer ones.
You may think that we feel insecure and that we need to bring a bag that does not go unnoticed in order to feel more adequate in daily challenges, but it is not at all like that.
Wearing a beautiful bag makes us feel even safer than what we already are and it is showed by the history of the bags. In ancient times bags were brought by the servants, sometimes transported by the animals representing  a lower social status. The real change came after the First World War, with the growing emancipation of women, for whom carrying a bag was a sign of independence. Women had their own cash and bank accounts, the keys to their property and their cars, and wanted the world recognize them. What better reason to wear a bag than to put all these things in pockets hidden under voluminous skirts? Then the bags began to be filled slowly by containers of cigarettes, lighters and above all by make-up ... lipsticks, powders, a real daily arsenal, up to the present day when our bags are like the one of Mary Poppins , overflowing with whatever we think may be useful for any eventuality.
So do not let us feel guilty... Let's start rather to prepare a very detailed and defined Christmas wishes-list in which we will not fail to include the request for a new bag. So, give up the evidence all you pretending to don’t understand our needs!

Benvenuto Autunno!

Benvenuto Autunno!

- Velluto a coste… Io l’ho sempre adorato!
#Mollichellaontheroad

Welcome autumn!

Welcome autumn!

“Summer is ending and a year goes away... I've grown up, you know I do not like it!”

So it was sung in a song by Righeira a few years ago and it has never been particularly concerning as in these days. Yesterday the autumn equinox has officially marked the end of summer. It is time, therefore, to start thinking about the autumn outfits despite the still mild temperatures that make us regret our beloved holidays!
Many ideas have come from the Fashion weeks, from that of New York to the one still ongoing in Milan. These are in fact the must-have of autumn 2018 that we have seen on all the international catwalks:
- white ankle boots... Do you dare to combine them with a midi dress with floral print?
- Corduroy... I have always loved it! Why do not wear it in a total look, with a men's cut suit?
- High-waisted trousers... the figure is soaring and they are tremendously glamorous! What better ally?
- Midi skirt... one of the winning cornerstones, perfect for any style.
- Belt bag... Hey you, do you remember the funny pack? Here it came back directly from the 90s in a so improved and incredibly chic version almost as much as if it were an it-bag.
And now we come to the colors that become warm, to wrap us up and cuddle us when the bad weather arrives.
After all, if we look at it from this point of view, autumn doesn’t look so bad. What do you think about it?
A kiss,

Come affrontare quest’ennesimo cambiamento?
Come avete accolto i vostri 30 anni?
Un bacio

30 seasons and still going strong

Here we are, I knew that sooner or later it would be time to write this post! A few days ago I walked through the door of the fateful 30 years... What do you suggest to me, shall I start crying or laughing? I'm pretty fought, divided in half. On the one hand I tell myself that nothing has changed, I will always remain like I am. But on the other hand, I am under a great psychological pressure... Do you want to look at the beauty of the twenties with their thoughtlessness, lightheartedness, lightness? Nothing to do in comparison with the heaviness of being 30 years old which contain in themselves responsibilities, commitments, obligations. How to deal with this latest change? Obviously in the way that suits me best, with great balance… I will continue to be an eternal Peter Pan who is not afraid to face the challenges that life reserves to her with great sense of maturity.
And what do you think about it? How did you welcome your 30th birthday?
A kiss

Estate 2018: cosa portare in spiaggia

In spiaggia o in piscina, vietato indossare i tacchi!

I gonfiabili:

A presto,
#Mollichellaontheroad

Summer 2018: what to bring to the beach

The countdown has already begun ... this is indeed the peak week of the much desired summer holidays. What will keep us company under the beach umbrella now that it's time to relax and enjoy the sun and the sea after a year of hard work?

The straw bag:
I have already told so to you ... it's the must have of this season. If you have not yet understood, let’s go read my article published a few weeks ago.

Sunglasses:
A very important tool to protect our eyes from the sun's rays, but at the same time the detail that can make our outfits turn!

The plastic slippers:
On the beach or by the pool, it is forbidden to wear heels! Especially since the summer 2018 trends see on the scene flat sandals and slippers!

Inflatables:
that are flamingos, peacocks, crocodiles or simple mats is not important. What matters is that they allow you to cheer your moments in the water.

And now I can only wish you happy holidays!
See you soon,

Quattro motivi per vestirsi sempre bene

#Mollichellaontheroad

Four reasons to always be well-dressed

#Mollichellaon

It is said that the suit doesn't make the man, but is it really like that? No, it isn’t or not at all.
Yeah.. Being well-dressed is not just a matter of fashion: clothes influence both how we feel and the perception that others have of us and our personality. Let's see how and why being dressed in a certain way rather than another affects our mood, our mind, our habits and our way of acting:
- We dress according to how we feel at that moment, to our state of mind. It is an unconscious process that happens without realizing it. But trust me... get dressed with care and you will feel better without even realizing it.
- Our outfit talks about us because it tells us what we do during the day and, we know, our habits define (in part) who we are. So pay attention to how you dress because clothes become an important means to get in touch with a specific target of people.
- If our mood affects the way of dressing, even the opposite happens. Clothes can help us to raise our self-esteem and to believe more in ourselves. For example, if you wear high-heeled shoes and red lipstick, you will feel invincible... to see before believing!
- Even our performances are influenced by the dress we wear... It is reported by a study of the Northwestern University. What does it mean? What if we are doing something well we should dress appropriately to be able to succeed.
Well, are you still so sure you do not want to pay proper attention to your look? If I were you I would start doing it right away.

Agosto… tempo di vacanze!

#Mollichellaontheroad

August ... it’s time for holiday!

#Mollichellaontheroad

When I hear the word August in my head I only imagine the sun, the sea, the sand and nothing else.
That’s how it is for me... since childhood, in fact, August was synonymous of beach holidays.
And what is the most beautiful sea in the world? But obviously ... the Mediterranean Sea.
Are you ready to close your suitcase and leave for a mini-tour to discover three wonderful places that can be easily reached by everyone?

1. Santorini:
with its cliffs, its volcanic beaches and its dazzling white villages, Santorini is certainly a place of great charm immersed in the Mediterranean Sea, where to combine breathtaking landscapes, nightlife and culture. A visit to the Fira museum is required between one swim and another.

2. Menorca:
if you are looking for a quiet place full of historical and natural beauties, far from the nightlife and night parties, a holiday in Menorca is just right for you. Its natural heritage is so vast that in 1993 the UNESCO granted it the title of Biosphere Reserve. You can admire all its wild nature in the S'Albufera des Grau Natural Park, but also along its pristine beaches such as Cala Blanca, Son Bou and Cavalleria!

3. Malta:
Located in the heart of the Mediterranean, the small island of Malta acts as a watershed between Western and Eastern culture, safeguarding the most important legacies of these two worlds.
Entirely to be visited to discover every hidden corner, without forgetting to take a trip to its nearby twin sister, the island of Gozo.

  •          gli interessi degli utenti;
  •          la recency;
  •          la relazione;
  •          la frequenza di accesso;
  •          la durata delle singole sessioni;

How to beat the Instagram algorithm

Anyone who knows me knows that I spend a lot of time on Instagram as I think it is one of the most useful and of immediate impact social networks thanks to the wide visibility and diffusion that allows me to have. So, I tried to understand how it works in order to use it in the most profitable way possible.
Recently modified, the Instagram algorithm represents the cross and the delight of all social media managers and since the onset of this social it has always been seen as an enemy to be defeated daily although at first, it caused more sympathy among users showing the posts in a chronological order. Recently, the temporal criterion has been abandoned, leaving room for relevance: everything starts from the interest, that is, from the forecast by Instagram regarding the potential engagement of a content. This prediction is made with artificial intelligence systems, which are able to understand what are the contents similar to those in the past already appreciated by individual users.
Another factor that plays an important role in the creation of the new Instagram algorithm is the recency, or the timing with which a post is published. The temporal factor, in fact, continues to be very important, even if less than the interest.
Finally, there is another parameter that influences the construction of the new Instagram algorithm: the relationship. In fact, Instagram verifies the relationship between users, choosing to show the posts of the closest people by calculating the interactions between the profiles such as messages, likes, comments and tags.
Other minor factors shall be added to these three essential criteria, such as the frequency of access to the app, the number of people followed and the duration of sessions within the platform.
Summing up briefly, therefore, are considered construction parameters of the algorithm:
  •          user interests;
  •          the recency;
  •          the relationship;
  •          access frequency;
  •          the duration of the individual sessions;
  •          the number of following.

To use the potential of Instagram in the best possible way it is therefore essential to build a successful social media strategy that allows us to improve the results obtained so far.
Precisely because one of the key factors in the construction of the algorithm is the interest determined through artificial intelligence systems, it is good practice to periodically verify the results obtained with the individual posts, perhaps even comparing them with those of competitors, so as to understand the tastes of acquired and potential community. In this way it will be possible to establish more precisely how to create our content & social media strategy, meeting the needs of our users and creating ad hoc contents that reflect their tastes.
Finally, to be successful on Instagram we will have to establish real relationships with our users, interacting with them, following them (without doing unfollow after a few days), commenting on their photos and replying when they write to us privately and / or publicly. In short, we will have to play with exciting content, that encourage the creation of a cohesive fanbase and study a mode to suit the target to make community management.
As you can see it's not so difficult. It takes just as much commitment, perseverance, tenacity and a little hard work. Are you ready to beat the Instagram algorithm thanks to my suggestions?
